Taverne Rubens – understated sophistication in the heart of Antwerp

Taverne Rubens in Antwerp, Belgium

Elegant and chic, this restaurant café serves up a good selection of food and drink from a varied menu.

Any trip to Antwerp is not complete without a visit to Rubens Taverne. It’s where the young and trendy meet the seasoned stalwarts, thus offering a relaxing respite to suit most tastes and pockets.

Especially recommended are the chef’s burger (a meat feast of a patty served, pleasingly, without the usually obligatory bun) and the Wiener schnitzel, which was cooked to perfection. If you fancy something a little lighter, try one of the fabulous omelettes and, for a taste of something extra special, wash it down with a Grimbergen beer.

Located two minutes from the Grote Markt on the corner of Suikerrui and Kaasstraat, this stunning, gothic building houses one of the city’s finest, if simplest, of eateries. Uncomplicated, unpretentious and with courteous and polite service, we’re pretty sure it will become one of your favourites; returning will definitely be on the cards.
