The Strawberry Gardens, Fleetwood – like pubs used to be

The Strawberry Gardens, Fleetwood

Traditional values go hand in hand with a forward thinking approach at this rather special Lancashire pub

The building has been part of Fleetwood’s fabric since time immemorial – the Strawberry Gardens pub is a geniunely impressive edifice, and has been a popular haunt for generations of Fleetwood’s drinkers. Yet the difficult trading conditions of recent years, coupled with the inevitable rise of the identikit chain pub, have threatened the Strawberry Gardens’ existence on numerous occasions. Hands were wrung and caps doffed upon its closure a few years back, and it was feared that this local institution would become another statistic, another boarded-up monument to the smoking ban and the recession.

How times change.

The Strawberry Gardens has undergone something of a renaissance, rising like a phoenix to offer its clientele something a little bit different – namely, an enormous and ever-changing choice of real ales and ciders. Now under the care of the award-winning Fuzzy Duck Brewery and run with pride by Dave Shaw and his friendly, professional team, the Strawberry Gardens offers a selection of no less than twelve beers and six ciders, not to mention most other drinks you’d care to mention. On the real ale front, you’ll find familiar favourites alongside new surprises, meaning you’re spoilt for choice every time you head to the bar. CAMRA members will receive a discount too.

In terms of atmosphere and ambience, you’ll find the Strawberry has everything you need, including fantastic food at unbelievable prices (the chilli steak pie comes highly recommended!), regular entertainment of all kinds, and that traditional “relaxed pub” environment where you can just sit and chill over a few beers, relax, and watch the world go by. There’s no need to scream above the blare of a jukebox, either, as the background music is just that.

In today’s age of pub closures and takeovers, it’s so refreshing to find a pub that upholds traditional values without becoming dated. The Strawberry Gardens gets our award for being what has truly got to be one of the best pubs in England.

I fully agree with all that has been said about the Strawberry Gardens and would also like to add that, in addition to serving excellent ale & food the Strawberry is also home to the Fylde Folk Club and is a venue for the Fylde Folk Festival, has live music at weekends and is a great supporter of Fleetwood Town Football Club. If you aint tried it yet What You Waiting For!!!

A shot in the arm for Fleetwood. My local, and proud of it! and the work that has gone into this place in the last 12 months makes this place a jewel in the crown.

Totally agree with what’s already been said! The Strawberry is an absolutely fantastic pub! Just how pubs should be. Plenty going on, and as for the choice of real ales on offer, 2nd to none! Cracking food too!
